By Gayle Middle

Have you ever wanted to redecorate or remodel your home or property, but have never been able to afford to do it? If you qualify to receive free government money in home improvement grants you can quickly get those projects underway without having to undergo a credit check or be responsible for paying the money back. Not everyone will qualify, but millions do and you may be one of them.

If you have ever wondered what the benefits of applying for government grants to finance your home repair endeavors, here are the top five reasons why smart and resourceful American taxpayers look to the government for financial assistance when embarking on home improvement projects…

Your family is growing and requires more space – Many growing families find that they are in need of more space but do not desire to move. If you are eligible to qualify, government home improvement grants may cover a great deal, if not all, of the cost of this essential reconstruction project.

Your family has decreased and you now have too much space -Some homeowners who have adult children that have moved out on their own apply for funding this to reconstruct their now oversized single-family homes into multiple rental units. This can create a life long income at no cost to the property owner.

Your interior décor is terribly outdated – Perhaps you have not upgraded appliances, utilities, or décor since you’ve moved in, and maybe previous occupants neglected that as well. You may be able to obtain free government money just to give your home a decorative new facelift.

Home repairs and remodeling will increase your property value – Every single improvement you make, whether it be cosmetic, or a detrimentally essential repair project, it will build instant equity in your home and in most cases dramatically increase your property value.

Last but not least…

Home improvement grants are free and you will never have to pay them back!

If you are an American home owner there is no better time to apply for grants to improve your home. There is a great chance that you will be eligible to qualify for these amazing government grants opportunities, and by clicking on the links below you can find out today.

To Apply for Grant Money, access the database to see what funding programs are available to you today. You could get your first check in as little as 7 days.

When you undertake a new home improvement project there will always be the issue of construction. Do you actually do all the work yourself or do you hire a professional? Have you thought about the safety concerns in doing your own home improvement construction? Do you have the budget to hire a contractor? These are questions that all need to be answered before deciding how you should approach the construction process.

DIY Construction

Doing the home improvement construction yourself has it’s pros and cons. The one major pro is that it’s far cheaper than hiring a professional contractor. Having said that you need to make sure you know what you’re doing. If you end up having to hire a contractor to fix the mess you’ve made it will end costing you far more than if you hired a contractor in the first place.

Hiring A Professional Contractor

Getting a professional contractor to do your home improvement construction makes your life easier. Basically you leave all the hard work and all the responsibility in the hands of someone who earns a living by knowing what he’s doing. You don’t need to worry about safety concerns either, if there are any issues the contractor should alert you and tell you what needs to be sorted. It’s more expensive off course, but the outcome should be very satisfying.

Construction Safety

Safety is a major concern. Whether you’re doing the construction yourself or you’ve hired a contractor you do need to make sure the home improvement construction is done safely. If you have hired a contractor he should be able to tell you if you need to do anything to improve safety. If you’re doing it yourself you should be extra careful. I would consult with a professional to make sure that I do the job safely. Nothing is more important than your health!

The Cost Of Construction

When it comes down to it the financial aspect is most likely going to decide how you will get your home improvement construction done. Let’s face it, if you’re on a tight budget you will probably be considering the DIY approach. That’s just fine if you know what you’re doing. However, if you don’t I urge you to consider hiring a professional. If you can’t afford that then you should reconsider the project. You have to thing about the long term costs of the project. As stated the DIY approach is cheaper IF you get it right. If you don’t it will end up being far more expensive.

There are many ways to approach home improvement construction. You need to consider quite a few things. Make sure the decision you make is the right one.

I hope you had a great Christmas and new year. As the 2009 is coming to life it is time to start planning your home improvement projects for the year. It’s time to take a look at what kind of projects you should think about doing this year. You might also be wondering if it’s even a good idea to start a home improvement project during a recession. These are all questions that will be answered in this first post of the year.

Planning For The Year To Come

Particularly if you like DIY projects January probably isn’t the best month of the year to work on your home improvement projects. The weather is just plain bad and working outside in particular can be a real pain. No, January is generally much better spend planning. If you’ve read any of my previous posts you will no that I’m really big on planning. The reason is quite simple really, finding and correcting errors during the planning stage is both more effective and far cheaper than doing so in the latter stages of your project. My advice therefore is to make good use of January to plan the projects you want to get done in 2009.

What Type Of Home Improvement Projects Will Be Hot In 2009

Well, particularly during the latter stages of 2009 climate changes, energy independence and the recession in global economy were hot topics. The odds of these topics dictating your 2009 home improvement projects are not small. If you’re at risk of losing your home your main concern probably isn’t home improvement. If that’s not the case, however, there are a lot of things you can start doing to increase the value of your home. In fact, some of these projects might even provide additional recurring revenue for you. How would you like a home that produces more energy than it consumes? Today that is a definite possibility. You can then sell your excess energy for a profit. Admittedly investments of that magnitude will take a while to pay off it will eventually do so. Not only that, it will continue to make you money year after year. That’s a great project for the future and one that it makes sense to get started on during a time where everybody are concerned about the climate, energy independence and the economy.

Investing In Home Improvement During A Recession

As stated in the previous paragraph there are home improvement projects that it makes sense to do even during a financial recession. You should look at project that do one of a few different things. First of all it would be nice if it helps to increase the equity of your home. Second try to find something that will help you save money. I’m particularly thinking about stuff like better insulation, a more effective water system etc. The third type of project you should look for is something that can make you money. I know that might not make much sense when it comes to your home, but in this day and age that is actually possible. These are the types of projects that it makes sense to do even during a recession.

2009 has the potential to be a great year for home improvement. You need to plan your projects now. January is the perfect month for planning especially if you like DIY projects. You should consider projects for the long run. Think about projects that will increase your equity. Adding value to your home now will be rewarded many fold once the recession is over.

First of all you should know that I’m not American. I’m from Denmark which is a tiny (compared to the US) country just north of Germany. Home improvement is a hobby as much as it is a way to save money. Much of the inspiration we get in Denmark comes from America. Mainly from TV shows and magazines, these days the Internet is also a growing source of inspiration. I have always perceived America to be a nation of pioneers. Home improvement is not an area that differs from that perception.

America Has It All

The beauty of a country like America is the diversity you inherently have. I mean, not only do you have 4(or is it 5?) different time zones you also span multiple climates ranging from polar tundras to tropical havens. That alone means that home improvement in one end of the country will have a very different focus than it will in the other end of the country. What I mean is this; will a family living in southern California focus on the same improvements as a family in Alaska?

Different Focus Same Goal

Home improvement in America and elsewhere will usually focus on one of three things:

Saving Money

Add Luxury

Increase The Value Of Your Home

Geography will not change that one bit and the priority will probably be different depending on the individual family. However, chances are that if you’re making home improvements that will save money (eg. better insulation, decrease the amount of water used) or adding luxury (eg. installing a spa or a pool) you will probably inadvertently increase the value of your home. In that respect it becomes a win-win situation.

Keep Looking For New Investments In Your Home

Investing in your home will usually pay off in the long run. So keep looking for new projects you can embark on. Although better insulation may not seem necessary for your southern California home I bet you’d be surprised by the amount of money you’ll eventually be able to save. Also if you’re living in Alaska solar panels might not seem like a viable home improvement option. Think again, it will probably be a great long term investment.

What I’m saying is that you should always look for new projects even ones that might seem far fetched. Do your research and make an informed decision. At the end of the day it’s a simple cost benefit analysis. Or simply put: how much will it cost me and how long will it take to make back that money either through savings or increased value. Home improvement is the way to go in America and elsewhere.

Dependency on foreign energy resources is a hot topic these days. Everybody is talking about how to become self sufficient. We’ll not talk about how to make your home self sufficient today. However, we’ll go into what you can start doing today to save energy and heat. That will not only make your home more energy efficient, but will also help you save quite a bit of money.

The Easy Way To Use Less Heat (And Money)

There are several reasonably easy ways to use less heat in your home. One of them is simply to turn down the heat a notch or two. I’m not saying you should be freezing, but if you can burn a few candles or wear a bit more clothes or bundle together in front of the TV with a blanket or two you can really save on your heat bill. Now this may not sound comfortable and if you don’t feel like compromising with your comfort there are plenty of other options.

Do you have a fireplace? If you do, use it. Not only is it cosy it is also cheaper than gas. Another advantage is that it is environmentally sound. You see wood is a CO2 neutral source of energy. Basically, the wood would send out the same amount of C=2 into the nature if you just left it there to rot as it will if you burn it. The same cannot be said of gas. Plus, did I mention that it was cheaper? These were a couple of easy options and not really what I’d consider home improvement projects, the next option is.

Make Sure Your Home Is Properly Insulated

Odds are pretty good that right now your wasting heat and energy. If your home is not properly insulated you will not only spend gas heating your home, but a lot of it will actually be radiating right into nature. The birds propably don’t mind, but do you really want to pay for their heating as well.

The first thing you need to look at is the insulation of your pipes. If the pipes going from your oil burner aren’t properly insulated you may be losing up to 15% of your heat through transferal. 15% is a lot of money on your heating budget.

After looking at the insulation of your pipes you really want to take a look at the rest of your homes insulation. First of all you need to make sure that the proper amount of insulation materials have been used. This is usually measured in inches. Then you also need to make sure that your entire house has been insulated, including the top and the bottom. Yes, that’s right. Both the floor and the ceiling should be insulated. Not just the walls.

An Environmentally Sound Way To Save Money

Most people think that being environmentally sound is just for tree huggers. The truth is that more often than not the average family can actually save a ton of money by thinking a bit about the environment in their everyday life. We’ll probably depend on oil for some years to come, what you can start doing today is to save a bit on the resources you use. If not for the environment then for your own personal economy. DIY heating projects for your home are not just fun and environmentally sound. In the long run you can bet they’ll be real money savers.

Green home improvement is all about saving the planet right? Well, that is a big part of it, but here’s something you might not be aware of. Green home improvement is also a great way to save money. This post is all about what you can do to save a bit of extra cash while doing your part to save the planet. Needless to say we’ll be discussing both alternative sources of energy, but also ways to decrease your use of the sources you are using today. We’ll talk a bit about water and how spend less of that without even noticing and finally we’ll get into some of the bigger projects you can consider getting started with.

The Light Bulb Moment

Did you know that you can save hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year by making some minor changes to your home. In my home I’ve made it a point to replace all my old light bulbs with new energy efficient light bulbs. I really should do it all at once, but energy efficient light bulbs are more expensive than regular light bulbs. That’s why every time I have to replace a light bulb anyway I make sure to put in an energy efficient light bulb. That way I don’t have to replace all of them at once. What you need to remember is that although they are more expensive than regular light bulbs they also last longer and spend far less energy.

Talking About Spending Less

Our water supply is something we have to take care of as well. Even, if you don’t really care about the water supply I bet your care about your pocket. Water is costly as well these days. Installing low flow shower heads and faucets will automatically reduce the amount of water you are using. In addition to that it’s almost as easy to install as the light bulbs. With most of these shower heads you won’t even notice that you’re spending less water. This is another saving tip, next we’ll talk a bit about something that might potentially be a bit more expensive.

The Heat Is On

Did you know that you might be using more heat in your home than you need to? The truth is that if your home isn’t insulated correctly your home will be radiating heat. Well, all homes are radiating heat to some degree, but you want to minimize that radiation. What you should do is check with a professional to see if your home is insulated correctly. In the long run poor insulation can be a really costly affair. As home improvement projects go this one will probably be very expensive to fix, but 10 or 20 years from now it’s likely to save you money.

Extreme Green Home Improvement

If you really want to go all out there are plenty of home improvement projects you can consider. An obvious project would be installing solar panels. Solar panels are a great way to provide energy and heat for your home. In fact you might even be able to sell off excess energy to make a bit of cash. You can also look into ways to recycle rain water. The fact is there are many green home improvement projects that can both save the planet and be lucrative.

Ready To Hug Trees?

As you can see tree hugging might not be such a bad idea. The fact is that even if your main concern is your bank account thinking in green home improvement projects might not be a bad idea. Even if you decide to start with making small changes you might still be saving hundreds of dollars each year. I don’t know about you but I can think of several things I’d like to spend a couple of hundreds of dollars on.

Any good home improvement project will require a certain amount of available cash. Let’s take a look at how you can find the best home improvement loan deals. We will take a look at what considerations you need to make before embarking on such a project as well as how to find the best way to finance it. Figuring out what the best home improvement financing for you might seem like a bit of a hassle, but it isn’t.

Why Even Bother With Home Improvement?

Home improvement is a great investment in the value of your home. Improving your home is no longer just a status symbol it can also greatly increase the value of your home to a potential customer. Even if you’re not looking to sell your home a building project such as this will most likely be of great value to you and your family. However, the best home improvement projects are not cheap.

Does My Credit Matter?

I wouldn’t dream of telling you that financing your home improvement project if you have poor credit is going to be easy as pie. The fact that you are making an investment in your home is most likely going to help you get the loan, however, in the current financial climate I can’t tell you it’s going to be easy. If you have any equity in your home that will help too, but ultimately you will probably have to look for the best possible deal.

Where Should I Look For Loan Deals

Finding the best home improvement loan deal will require some research. The first place you might want to look is with your bank. They will be happy to tell you about the options you have available. However, you shouldn’t blindly put your faith in them. Take a good look online as well. The Internet is a great place to find almost anything, however, you should make a careful comparison of the deals you find online to the deals you have found online. With a project of this size, you want to make sure that you get the best possible deal.

So, What’s The Best Possible Deal?

The best way to finance your project depends on your situation. Having said that you could easily benefit from taking a look at any special deals that come along. Lenders like to get new customers and will likely try to lure them with special offers. Be careful though, always consult with an accountant or another independent financial advisor before signing a loan deal. Your financial situation is not something to be toyed with.

Cost VS. Benefit

A home improvement project can be a great investment in your future. It can greatly increase the value of your home. Make sure you find the best home improvement loan deal to finance your project and always consult a financial advisor.
