Are You Thinking About Alternative Energy Sources?
As you have probably heard, unless you have been hiding under a rock, most of the energy we are using today comes from non-renewable energy sources. One of the big problems with non-renewable energy sources are that once they are gone, they are gone. That wouldn’t be such a big problem if it wasn’t for the fact that we are running out of non-renewable energy. That’s why a lot of research is being done into renewable energy sources. However, using renewable energy sources can be somewhat more difficult than using non-renewable sources. On the other hand, they do provide a lot of benefits when they have been implemented.
As you might have guessed one of the major advantages of renewable energy sources are that they never run out. That means they will never be depleted, and we won’t have to worry about running out of energy. Another advantage is that the pollution is at an absolute minimum.
By choosing decentralized locations many countries have seen additional advantages with renewable energy sources as they have been able to create activity and jobs in fringe areas. In addition they have also been able to attract tourists to these renewable energy sites. An American example of renewable energy sources becoming a tourist attraction is the Hoover Dam.

The huge advantage of using fossil energy sources as we have done so far is their great reliability. Renewable energy sources depend upon a great deal on conditions that we have no control over, like the weather. That makes it somewhat difficult to guarantee the energy production level that we need.
In addition to being less reliable it is also far more expensive to set up renewable energy sources. Add to that the fact that renewable energy sources like dams can actually have detrimental effects on the surrounding areas.
The following will discuss some more pros and cons of alternative energy.
Solar Power: The great thing about solar energy is that it’s a pretty reliable source of alternative energy. We have a pretty good idea of how much the sun is going to shine in a specific area. That’s also one of the problems with solar energy, you need to have the sun pouring down its rays as much as possible so some areas are better suited for solar power than others.
Wind Energy: Well, it’s very much dependent on the weather of course, but as with solar power it’s reasonably easy to predict how much wind, there will be in a given area. It is believed that in time wind power can supply 20 percent of the energy that we need. To make wind power efficient you need big areas of land, and you don’t want to place your windmills in a valley.
Other Alternative Sources Of Energy: There are other sources of energy to consider such as hydro-electricity and biomass. Hydro-electricity which comes from dams or hydro-powerplants seem to have a very severe effect on its surrounding environment so at this point it doesn’t look like a viable source of energy. Bio- mass, on the other hand, can be used to replace current fossil fuels. However, since we are at this stage burning food to produce biomass energy it is a technology that needs further development.
With the impending depletion of non-renewable energy sources, there is no doubt that we all need to seriously consider alternative energy sources. At this stage most renewable energy sources have some disadvantages, but the benefits seem to be at least equally great. As the renewable energy technologies develop; no doubt more and more of the energy we consume will be replaced by green energy sources.
